Camino de Santiago

A practical guide with detailed route maps

The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is the name of any of the pilgrimage routes to the shrine of the Apostle St. James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried. It is one of the world's most famous pilgrimage routes, with over 300,000 people undertaking the journey each year. Many follow its routes primarily for religious and spiritual reasons, others however are moved by the desire to get away from their daily life and connect with nature. The Camino de Santiago has also been officially recognized by the Council of Europe and UNESCO for its historical and spiritual significance.
